    Types Of Printing For Magazines

Before selecting any printing method, you have to identify the paper on which you want to print, say glossy catalogue printing. The method will be different from brochure printing, booklet printing, etc. There are several printing methods available for the printing of magazines. Each method has its distinct characteristics and the selection depends upon the type of paper and color you want for your final printed paper. The main types that you can consider for your custom magazine printing are:

    Offset Printing

It is one of the comment methods that gives high-quality prints that result in images with sharp designs, vibrant colors, and the fastest turnout. If you need large runs of magazines then this method can be used in which the ink is transferred from a plate to a blanket made of rubber and then to the printing surface. As a magazine printing company we know that brand’s this method because they want to get consistent colors for their large order of magazines in a short duration. Apart from this, this method is suitable for a large number of paper types and thicknesses.

    Digital Printing

If a publisher needs shorter runs or quick turnout time then digital printing is our top priority. In this process, there is no need to invest in printing plates which is why it is a relatively economical method especially if you need short runs. Digital printing also allows variable data printing, so you can personalize each copy of your magazine with a unique text or image. Or you can even get single magazine printing as a sample.

    Gravure Printing

Gravure printing is a high-quality printing method and is used for long runs. If you need thousands of copies of the magazine then this is an ideal printing method. In this method, we use an engraved cylinder to transfer the design onto the paper. This method gives a high level of detail and color depth. The only drawback of this method is that it is an expensive method and we recommend this only for commercial level of printings.

    Web Printing

We also have the option of web printing in which the paper is fed into rolls in the magazine printing machine press rather than individual sheets. This is also a type of offset printing. When you have to get large-scale printing, efficient, and fast results then this is the option we usually recommend. This printing method can handle high volumes of magazines at low cost which is why it is considered an ideal method for long runs.

    Sheet-Fed Printing

As the name of the printing indicates, in this method individual sheets are fed into the press at a time. High-end magazines or door hangers, where quality holds paramount importance are printed via this method. For heavier paper stock, to give a luxurious feel, and for the short run, this printing method is used.

    Color Options for Magazine Printing

It is essential to choose the right color for the visuals of the artwork so that your selected graphics can pop out on the pages and engage the readers. Selecting the magazine printing service of our company, you can get the following common color: `

    CMYK

CMYK is a subtraction method from which we can get a large number of colors. Due to its ability to produce several colors and gradients of color, this is an ideal option for magazine printing. Apart from this, it can produce consistent graphics patterns and illustrations of the best quality.

    Pantone Matching System

Pantone colors are available in pre-mixed inks and provide the exact color match. When it comes to magazine printing then this is the common method used for covers, logos, or any other artwork where precise color is required. Pantone colors are more expensive than CMYK but they are worth your investment when you need high-end publications, need magazine printing paper of high quality, and want maximum precision of the exact color, you can use this method.

    Spot Colors

Sports colors are individual colors that are used in addition to CMYK. These colors are applied to the specific elements of the magazine such as the logos, headlines, borders, etc. If you want to add a special touch to your design then spot colors are an ideal option to highlight the special features of your magazines.

    Black And White

If your publication is more focused on written content then you can go with black and white printing. This method is quite economical as compared to other options. It is among the popular options of colors in art or certain photography magazines where the use of greyscale enhances the overall aesthetic of the design or graphic.

    How To Upload Your Files

You can submit your design in CMYK colors for the exact color on your printed magazines. We accept PNG and JPG as file formats, but PDF is the preferred option. You can also consult our team to know the right format for your design.

    • Press-ready PDF
    • Other acceptable formats are AI, EPS, PSD, TIFF
    • Avoid using poor-quality JPGs having low resolution
    • Submit PNG only in RGB format

    Color Mode

    • Use CMYK
    • Do not submit designs in RGB or Pantone unless we have specifically requested them. This is necessary to prevent shifting colors during conversions.

    Resolution

    • Minimum 300 DPI
    • Lower resolutions cause pixelation or blurry text and images
    • Make sure that all the designs meet this standard

Point To Be Kept In Mind

You can either supply your design as a single file or as a single spread. Make sure you have clearly labeled your designs so that the system will not make any errors. Also, add a 0.125 blank area on both sides of the fold lines before uploading it.  For instance, an 8.5” x 11” magazine file should be 8.75” x 11.25”.

    • Trim Line: Actual finished size after cutting.
    • Safe Zone: Keep text and logos at least 0.25 inches (6 mm) inside the trim line.

This will prevent losing image content during trimming

    Folding

We have several attractive and catchy folding options that you can choose from. Every fold has different specifications, and the ability to present the magazine. So it is better to consult a designer if you do not have the correct idea about the design.

    Bleed

Bleed area is the portion around the print trim size. It extends the image and color beyond the finished trim size. This is necessary to make sure that no color on the final magazine remains white or colorless. You must add 0.125 bleed to every print file before uploading. Do not add any important information in the bleed area, as it may lead to the cutting of important information. If your pages are blank, then you skip the bleed area. By blank, we mean that there is no image or text that meets the edges.

    Margins And Alignment

    • Your margins must be consistent across panels for professional symmetry
    • For perfect alignment of text and images, use a grid or ruler guidelines. This will also help with perfect fold lines.
    • Logos and backgrounds come under cross-panel elements and must be cross-checked for a seamless flow.

    Fonts And Text

    • Convert all fonts to outlines or vectors. You can also embed the outline in a PDF
    • Minimum font size must be 8 pt for body text
    • Make sure to avoid things or light color fonts on a dark background, because it may lead to uneven printing

    File Naming Convention

Use a clear file name format. In this, you must add the company name and magazine size. You can also mention the fold and date for a better organization
